Frequently asked questions

Two ways to browse — start with platform-wide questions (billing, security, Claude subscription, getting started), then dive into the connector you care about. Same answers, organised the way our customers actually ask.

File Server FAQ

File Server — read a firm's Windows file share through the on-prem Windows agent (no VPN, read-only). Everything below is File-Server-specific; for platform-wide questions, see the Platform tab.

File Server Q&A

6 questions
How does Claude read our files if they're on our own server?
Through a small Windows agent your IT installs on a machine that can open the shares. It dials OUT over HTTPS (443) and waits for work — no inbound ports, no VPN. Claude asks; the agent reads locally and returns just the result.
Can Claude change, move, or delete our files?
No. Read-only — the four tools browse, search, read metadata, and extract text. There is no write/rename/move/delete path in the agent.
Which folders can it see? Can it wander into places it shouldn't?
Only the shares your IT configures. Any attempt to escape the roots (../.., absolute paths, or escaping symlinks) is refused before a byte is read, re-checked against the real path.
What credentials does it use? Do you store our file-server password?
No password is stored. The agent reads as a Windows service account you grant read access; Cohesive360 holds only the agent's bearer token (hashed).
What file types can it read?
PDFs (text layer), Word .docx, and common text formats. Scanned/image PDFs return a note (no OCR). Extracted text is capped per read.
How do we get it set up?
By request. We generate an agent token; your IT installs the Windows agent, points it at the folders, and runs it as a service. Same framework as ProLaw — two systems, two small agents.
