Settlement Prep

1-page settlement brief or full demand packet — drafted from the case file, ready for partner review.

The problem

Two related jobs that both eat hours: (1) the partner wants a 1-page settlement brief with all the numbers (specials, liens, fee, costs, prior offers, net to client) before authorizing settlement; (2) once authorized, somebody has to build the demand packet — cover letter + provider index + treatment timeline + lien status + exhibit inventory. Either job is 30-60 minutes of paralegal time per case. On a busy desk, both pile up; settlements delay because nobody had the day.

The outcome

Point Claude at the case. Ask for either format — quick brief for the partner-level review, or full demand packet for the carrier. Claude pulls every relevant number + document, does the math, drafts the right output. Hours of assembly → minutes + your review.

Connectors you'll need

The prompt

Paste this into Claude (with Cohesive360 installed in your Claude → Settings → Connectors). Replace bracketed placeholders with your specifics.

For case [CASE NUMBER], generate [either: a settlement brief / a full demand packet]:
Numbers I need: total medical specials (by provider), total liens, expected fee per the fee agreement, prior settlement offers, policy limits + excess coverage, net to client.
Documents I need (for the packet): provider index, treatment timeline, lien status, document inventory, cover letter demanding policy limits.
Output as our standard 1-pager (brief) or multi-section packet (demand). Show every number with its source so I can audit.

What Claude does

Step-by-step rundown of the work. Every write is drafted, not posted — you approve before anything lands in your systems.

  1. 1

    Pull case + insurance overview

Reads the case overview, plaintiff details, adverse carrier info, and policy limits.

  2. 2

    Medical specials index

Every medical provider with billed/paid totals + balance. Notes any provider on a lien.

  3. 3

    Compute the math

Net to client = settlement − liens − fee − costs. Claude does the arithmetic explicitly. Fee % from the case's fee structure on file.

  4. 4

    Liens snapshot

Every lien with current balance + latest negotiation status. Flags liens not yet acknowledged.

  5. 5

    Treatment timeline (packet mode only)

Chronological visit list, grouped by provider. Flags treatment gaps (carriers love gaps).

  6. 6

    Cover letter (packet mode only)

Quotes policy limit, lists total specials, narrates incident in 2 paragraphs, demands policy limit, 30-day response window. Uses your firm's standard demand template.

  7. 7

    Hand off for review

Single document ready for partner pass or paralegal finishing. Flags any number it couldn't find ('No fee agreement on file — using firm-standard 33%').

Verify before approving

Claude is fast but not infallible. These are the spots most worth a second look before you hit approve.

  • Verify the fee percentage — Claude defaults to the case's fee structure but may fall back to a firm-standard.
  • Cross-check the lien total against your liens module; in-negotiation liens show the open balance.
  • Confirm policy limits — relevant if you're negotiating around them.
  • Verify demand number against firm strategy. Claude defaults to policy limits; sometimes the strategy is a lower demand with room to negotiate.
